Ways to save a recipe

Save a recipe from Facebook

That recipe your aunt shared will be buried by tomorrow. Paste the post's link and it is saved in your kitchen as a proper recipe.

Free while we are in beta. No credit card.

How to turn a Facebook post into a recipe

STEP 1

Copy the post's link

On the post or video in Facebook, tap Share, then Copy link.

STEP 2

Open Add, then From a link

In Snap and Simmer, tap Add, then From a link. Facebook links go in the same box as recipe web pages.

STEP 3

Paste it and tap Import recipe

Paste the link and tap Import recipe.

We read the post first. If it links to the full recipe on a web page, we save it from there. If the recipe is written in the post, we save that. If it lives only in a short video, we watch it: we listen to what is said and read the text on screen.

STEP 4

Check it and cook

You get a proper recipe: title, ingredients, steps and tags, with the post or the recipe page still linked. An amount that is never given is left blank for you to fill in.

Good to know

  • The post has to be public. Posts from private profiles and private groups cannot be read.
  • Linked videos can be up to three minutes long. Many Facebook cooking videos are longer; those are saved when the recipe is written in the post or on a page it links to.
  • Every kitchen gets 5 video watches a month while we are in beta. Recipes found in the post or on a linked page do not need a watch.
  • We never guess. An amount that is not said or shown stays blank.

If the recipe is in a picture or the comments

Recipes on Facebook are often a photo of a card, or typed in the comments. Save the picture and add it with a photo, or copy the comment and paste it in with Add, then Paste text.

Questions

Do I need a Facebook account?

No. You only need the link, and the post has to be public.

Does it work with posts from private groups?

No. We can only read public posts. For a private one, copy the recipe text and paste it in, or save the picture and add it as a photo.

How long can the video be?

Up to three minutes for a linked video. Longer videos are saved when the recipe is written in the post or on a page it links to.

What if the recipe is only spoken in the video?

We watch the video, listen to what is said, read any text on screen and write the recipe down from that.

Is it free?

Yes, while we are in beta. Every kitchen gets 5 video watches a month, and saving from posts, links, photos and pasted text is free.
