Cook Mode: one step at a time

Flour on your hands, phone propped against the backsplash. Cook Mode shows the step you are on in big type, runs the timers and keeps the screen awake.

How to cook with it

STEP 1

Tap Cook on any recipe

Open a recipe and tap ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ Cook. The recipe switches to one step per screen.

STEP 2

Move through the steps

Each step fills the screen in large type, with "Step 3 of 6" so you know where you are. Tap to go on to the next step or back to the last one.

STEP 3

Start the timers the recipe mentions

When a step says "simmer for 20 minutes", the time shows up as a timer you can start with a tap. Several can run at once, and each one rings when it is done. Need longer? Tap +1 min.

For a range like "20 to 25 minutes", the timer rings at the shorter time so you can check.

STEP 4

Check ingredients and scale as you go

Tap Ingredients to see the list without leaving your step, and tick each one off as it goes in. Cooking for more people? Make half, double or triple the recipe, and switch between US and metric amounts.

When you finish

The last screen has an ๐Ÿณ I made this button. Log that you cooked it, with a photo and a note for next time if you like: a swap, a tweak, who loved it. Your cooking log lives under Cooked on the Lists tab.

Good to know

  • The screen stays awake while Cook Mode is open. A few browsers do not allow this, and Cook Mode tells you when yours is one of them.
  • Leaving Cook Mode stops your timers, and it checks with you first.
  • It works for every recipe, however it was saved.

Can I change the serving size while cooking?

Yes. Scale the recipe to half, double or triple and switch between US and metric from the ingredients panel.

Does it work on a tablet?
