The web clipper: save recipes from sites that block importers

Some recipe sites refuse to hand their pages to importers. The clipper runs in your own browser, so if you can see the recipe, you can save it.

How to set up and use the clipper

STEP 1

Open the setup page from the You tab

On a computer, open Snap and Simmer, go to the You tab, find Recipe web clipper and choose Set up the web clipper.

STEP 2

Add the clip button to your browser

The setup page shows your own + Clip to Snap and Simmer button and the steps for the browser you are using. In most browsers you drag the button onto your bookmarks bar.

The button is tied to your account, so keep it to yourself.

STEP 3

Open any recipe and click the button

When you find a recipe you want, click + Clip to Snap and Simmer in your bookmarks bar. The page you are looking at is sent to your kitchen.

STEP 4

Saved

A new tab confirms it: the recipe is in your kitchen, tagged and searchable. Open it from there or close the tab and keep browsing.

Where it works

  • Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Windows and Mac.
  • The button lives in the browser you add it to. Set it up once on each computer you use.
  • On a phone, use From a link instead: copy the recipe's address, tap Add, then From a link, and paste it.

Why it works when importers are blocked

A blocked importer never gets to see the page. The clipper does not have that problem, because it reads the page that is already open in front of you, in your own browser.

Questions

Is it a browser extension?

No. It is a bookmark button, so there is nothing to install and nothing running in the background.

Which browsers does it support?

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows and Mac.

Does it work on my phone?

The clip button needs a bookmarks bar, which phones do not really have. On a phone, paste the recipe's link into From a link.

Can I clip a TikTok or Instagram page?

Yes. Clipping a TikTok or Reel page reads the recipe the same way as pasting its link.
